During a time long ago, “the wickedness of man was great,” ---so great in fact that “every imagination of the thoughts of [man] was only evil continually” (Genesis 6:5)
The Lord grieved by this wickedness, said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth” (Genesis 6:7) for the Earth is filled with violence” (Genesis 6:13)
But one man, Noah and his family were different. They “walked with God” (Genesis 6:9)
So the Lord warned Noah that flood waters would rise around him and gave him specific instructions to protect himself and his family. “And Noah did according to all that the Lord had commanded him” (Genesis 7:5)
Like Noah we live in a time of wickedness when the thoughts of many men are only “evil continually.” Flood waters of iniquity are rising around us.
“We live in a day when Lucifer’s influence is greater than we have ever known in our lifetimes.” said Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin of the Quorum of the Twelve during his 1993 conference address. “In terms of the sin, evil, and wckedness upon the earth, we could liken our time to the days of Noah before the flood.”
One of the greatest evils of our day is pornography. Like the rising floodwaters of Noah’s time, it is filling the earth and seeping into places we have always assumed were safe from disaster: our homes.
On October 30, Morality in Media kicked off the 24th annual White Ribbon Against Pornography Week. Anti-pornography experts were enlisted as some of the events primary collaborators.
Good people working together to fight pornography has never been more needed.
Today, 47 percent of families in the United States report that pornography is a problem in their homes, according to the National Coalition for the Protection of Children and Families, an Ohio based non profit organization working to promote Christian values.
It is no surprise, considering the breadth and reach of pornography; according to Enough is Enough--- a Virginia based non-profit organization formed in 1994 with aims to make the Internet safer for children and families --- world wide pornography revenue is estimated to be more than $97 billion dollars with $13 billion of that spent in the United States.
The porn industry in the U.S. rakes in more money than ABC, NBC and CBS television networks combined. Every second, 28,258 viewers are watching pornography and 372 Internet users are typing adult search terms into search engines. And every 39 minutes, a new pornographic video is made in the United States, according to Enough is Enough.
Worse yet is that pornography today is far more violent than ever before. With the touch of a button, any sexual fantasy, however deviant or cruel, can be obtained rapidly over the Internet.
A growing body of research suggests that the habitual use of pornography---especially Internet pornography---can damage people of all ages and both sexes, negatively impacting their relationships, productivity, happiness and their ability to function in society., according to the Witherspoon Institute at Princeton University. Church leaders have also warned against this rising tide of evil.
“We abhor pornography that seems to be flooding the land,” said Spencer W. Kimball in a 1975 address. “The best way to stop it is to have men and women, with their families build a barrier against it.”
And like the times of the Biblical flood---when people mocked Noah and his family for fortifying themselves against the rising waters---people today mock those who recognize and fight the evils of pornography.
Thomas S. Monson notes, “ Some publishers prostitute their presses by printing millions of pieces of pornography each day. No expense is spared to produce a product certain to be viewed, then viewed again. One of the most accessible sources of pornography is the Internet, where people can turn on a computer and instantly have at their finger tips countless sites featuring pornography. ...Tainted as well is the movie producer, the television programmer, or the entertainer who promotes pornography. Long gone are the restraints of yesteryear. So called realism is the quest, with the result that today we are surrounded by this filth.
“Avoid any semblance of pornography. It will desensitize the spirit and erode the conscience.
We are told “That which doth not edify is not of God and is darkness.”, such is pornography”
The flood in Noah’s time was sent to cleanse the earth because of the wickedness of the people. The source of today’s symbolic flood waters is also wickedness. And the answer is the same as it was in biblical times: Noah and his family were saved because they were righteous. (Genesis 6:9)
We should clearly understand that as the flood waters of pornography threaten our families the “only way to find peace, happiness and overcome the evils of the world and temptations of this generation is in the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Putting it another way “Noah had the unwavering faith to follow God’s commandments. “May we ever do likewise. May we remember that the wisdom of God ofttimes appears as foolishness to men; but the greatest lesson we can learn in mortality is that when God speaks and we obey, we will aways be right.”

I don't really want to comment on the quality of Kimballs "family advice"
but anyone considering it should possibly also know that Kimball also said of the American Indians, "they are fast becoming a white and delightsome people" ,and, "For years they have been growing delightsome , and they are now becoming white and delightsome , as they were promised."
But just incase you are considering marrying one of these whitening and delightsome people, his advice also is, "there is one thing I must mention , and it is interacial marriges. When I said you must teach your young people to overcome their prejudices and accept the Indians, I did not mean that you would encourage intermarriage."
Kimball also said the church recommends that members marry partners who have the same racial, economic, social, educational and religious background.
Rev2 also said something recently about believing the Bible (and fair enough too) but Kimball at a meeting of "priesthood holders" said "Betheren 225000 of you are here tonight. I suppose 225000 of you may become gods. There seems to be plenty of space out there in the universe."
Ps I'm too lazy to write down the references for the above quotes ,just let me know if you want them.
Your response is somewhat amusing and slightly off topic to say the least.
I would like to have your references so I don’t get a out of context slanted perspective.
Your quote allegedly says: “Kimball also said the church recommends that members marry partners who have the same racial, economic, social, educational and religious background.”
So, if I understand your perspective correctly, it would appear that your advice for successful happy marriages would be for church members to marry partners with different social, racial, economic, educational and religious backgrounds.???
I suspect that if you did further investigation that you would find President Kimball’s suggestions on the above issues would be very similar to those of a Catholic priest, a Rabbi, or many other Protestant ministers. I think those suggestions overall are just good common sense.
For your information, the church has no restrictions whatsoever on interracial marriages or any of the above listed issues upon which his advice was given.
Any marriage in the best of circumstances usually requires adjustments in almost every area of the relationship.
On a personal note, you might note that one of our daughters married a wonderful Filipino. She has a very light complexion. All their children have that very beautiful tan Filipino complexion. They enjoy every blessing any other church member can enjoy. Yes, mixed marriages can also work very successfully! Their marriage has our 100% blessing and approval.
Quote: › I would like to have your references so I don’t get a out of context slanted perspective.
Certainly : The white and delightsome statements come from Kimball's statement at the L.D.S General Conference of October 1960.
The not encouraging interracial marrige bit came from a speech he gave in 1958 it was reprinted in the Church section of the Deseret News on June 17 1978.
The 225000 potential gods comes from Pg 80 of the November 1975 "Ensign"
Quote: › So, if I understand your perspective correctly, it would appear that your advice for successful happy marriages would be for church members to marry partners with different social, racial, economic, educational and religious backgrounds.???
Well no ! my advice would be to marry someone you love and makes you happy regardless of social, racial, economic, educational and religious backgrounds.

Well this may not be strictly correct The Juvenile Instructor , Vol3 pg 165 says" In fact we believe it to be a great sin in the eyes of our Heavenly Father for a white person to marry a black one.And further that it is a prove of the mercy of God that no such race appear able to continue for many generations."
And prophet Brigham Young said mixing your seed with blacks leads to death on the spot and this will always be so ,yes sorry even in your time Rev2. Journal of discourses Vol 10pg 110 . In fact you can even read it it my attachment from the journal below.

I couldn't agree with you more.

Well that info didn't seem to get any response. So maybe some scripture does say it is wrong for Black and Whites to get married?
But you are right Rev2 this is a little of topic, but getting back to the topic of pornography would you be shocked to know I could show you a picture that is scripture and also show a picture of a man with an erect penis?
Sorry I did not respond sooner. So here goes my response.
In reference to your issue of the Lamanites or American Indians becoming “a white and delightsome people” I can see where many have failed to clearly understand the true intent of that statement found in the Book of Mormon. As you well know this issue has been a hot topic for critics. Unfortunately it has been a verse misunderstood by members of the church also.
For your information the new versions of the Book of Mormon that verse now reads “a pure and delightsome people.”
What! Why such a change?
By way of explanation one should understand the symbolism intended by the word “white” which was purely symbolic and represented “purity”. This word change in the latest publications in reality changed nothing in the intent, but merely clarified that intent to avoid the many false interpretations or misunderstandings that the word “white” used in earlier editions caused in the minds of those that lacked clear and full understanding of the real intent.
Which is easier to understand? “A white and delightsome people” (which requires one to clearly understand to be symbolic of purity), or to say simply “a pure and delightsome people.”?
In response to some of your other points you should recall that your references are not scripture and may reflect a personal opinion of someone.
Even prophets in any dispensation are like the rest of us and may have personal opinions. Even the great prophet Moses had personal opinions and freely expressed such. The Lord found it necessary to redirect or correct Moses’s ideas and to make provisions to compensate for Moses’s weaknesses.
You also said: “ But you are right Rev2 this is a little of topic, but getting back to the topic of pornography would you be shocked to know I could show you a picture that is scripture and also show a picture of a man with an erect penis?”
I think that some of the greatest truths taught in scripture are gained through the power of symbolism. Symbolism is a very powerful teaching tool which the Lord utilizes very effectively for those who search for deeper understanding.
Parables were another powerful teaching tool used in the scriptures. To some degree a parable may be less effective to one who is spiritually immature, whereas to one who is searching a prepared the same parable may embody and derive rich and deep understanding.
If understood correctly the picture you refer to may carry and teach much deeper and eternal impact and understanding of sacred principles.
For example, I have talked with some who believe that in the resurrection their bodies will be missing some very wonderful appendages!
LOL, frankly I am more than a little amused at their concept of this, as I see it “a less than perfect resurrection”. As for myself, I will opt for a “complete and perfect resurrection”!
I don’t think it would be such a great society in heaven where everyone is just an “it” with no male or female identity where essentially the man is without the woman and the woman is without the man in the Lord.
Quote: › one should understand the symbolism intended by the word “white” which was purely symbolic and represented “purity”.
Oh well thank God we got issue cleared up. So white just means pure. I've never thought the people issueing those word 'white and delightsome" were racist and the people who argue, that they are racist, are just talking white rubbish.
Quote: › In response to some of your other points you should recall that your references are not scripture and may reflect a personal opinion of someone.
Possibly true but I'm sure B.Youngs statement on Blacks and Whites mixing can be regarded as scripture, it did come from a sermon given by one of Gods Prophets.
Now for the erect penis (avert your eyes if you are of a delicate nature.)
In the figure below from the Scripture "The book of Abraham" is a figure numbered 7. Mormons say it
".Represents God sitting upon his throne, revealing through the heavens the grand Key-words of the Priesthood; as, also, the sign of the Holy Ghost unto Abraham, in the form of a dove."
Those silly "dirty minded' Egyptologists say
"that this is the god "Min." Min is an "ithyphallic god," that is, a sexually aroused male deity."
Apparently poor old Min lost his penis in some earlier versions of the Book of Abraham but he has now got it back (won't Mrs Min be pleased).
I have reproduced the Egyptian Papyri as it appeares in the Book Of Abraham below with a clearer inverted image (the way we see it in the Southern Hemisphere)
Ps if you find some of the images in the upper right quarter of the original strange and some letters on the circumfrence upside down and/or from different languages don't worry this part of the Papyri was damaged and "God' filled in the missing details.

Well we have got no denial that a prophet of the lord forbade black/white marriages in a sermon .So I guess we can call this scripture and draw our own conclusions here.
Now the circular drawing shown above is Mormon Scripture and is facsimile 2 from the Book Of Abraham and was downloaded directly from a Mormon site.If you want to know what they say it means click here
On the other hand Egyptologists say its a hypocephalus a sort of head warmer placed under the mummies head to keep it warm in the next world with various writings on it to help in the next world as well.
Now I mentioned earlier that the upper right quarter of the hypocephalus was missing and Smith with "God's" help filled in the missing parts. We now know were Smith may have got some of his missing info from. he apparently got it from another Papyri called the sensen papyri which Mormon and Gentiles agree is a non Jewish, common 200BC.~200AD Egyptian funeral document called "the book of breathings"
How do we know that a bit of the original hypocephalus was missing when we don't have the papyri which was probably lost in a museum that burnt down in the 1871 Chicargo fire?
Its because we have copies of Smiths "Egyptian alphabet and grammar" (but only because it was leaked to the outside world) a B.o.Abraham draft, which contains Smiths copy of the original.
I produce it below with a copy of where Smith may have got his 'fill in" information.
Oh the wickedness of man!
Quote: › Well we have got no denial that a prophet of the lord forbade black/white marriages in a sermon .So I guess we can call this scripture and draw our own conclusions here.
We haven't got a denial that this anti mixed marriage message can be called scripture. There is of course a very good reason for this. Rev2 may allready know what it is (or be desparately trying to find out).I'll of course update you in a day or so.(Maybe after a reply to this thread )
I find it somewhat amusing that you can post some flavours of Christianity's scripture on this forum and draw absolutly no response.
LOL , of all people I thought you would have figured out by now that the Journal of discourses is not a 26 volume record of scripture.
There is a very clear set procedure well established upon which items are included in the "Standard Works of Scripture".
But don't worry too much about new scripture, but think for a moment of all records that shall be restored as a part and parcel of the restoration of all things in Christ since the world began.
with that in mind consider the following: The D&C is an open book subject to additional light and knowledge to yet be revealed. The same applies to the P of GP. The BOM contains less than 1/100th of what will yet be revealed.
As you well know the Bible references at least 26 lost books and I am certain that the day will come when those book will be found or restored.
so in that light every record is subject to additional revelation including the Bible, for the Bible so prophesies of many prophesies which shall yet be given. It also declares that latter day prophets will exist and give mighty prophesies.
BTW one should also clearly understand that not every word or idea spoken by a prophet is scripture. A prophet in not infallible and they like anyone else may maintain their own opinions and views.
I can't help but wonder if you put as much effort into studying the scriptures and the doctrines taught therein, that you might actually be better edified.
Quote: › BTW one should also clearly understand that not every word or idea spoken by a prophet is scripture. A prophet in not infallible and they like anyone else may maintain their own opinions and views.
Err... Ok I'll go along with that.
Quote: › LOL , of all people I thought you would have figured out by now that the Journal of discourses is not a 26 volume record of scripture.
Umm .. Sort of correct I would say it's
"at least a 12 or more volume that contains definative parts that can be called scripture"
You see volume 13 pg 95 has Brigham Young saying
"I never yet preached a sermon and sent it out to the children of men, that they may not call scripture. Let me have the previlage of correcting a sermon, and it is as good Scripture as they deserve."
So we have a prophet of God telling us what is scripture, and the black/white marriage statement is included in that catagory.
Are you Rev2, a mere mortal ( I presume ) going to dissagree with a prophet of God as to what is scripture?
This post is an addition to my post on "Isreal do you know" of the 28/1/2012 as on that thread I can't post attachments .I will try to link that thread to this post and these attachments.
This is a copy of a court record of Joseph Smiths "glass looking " trial of 1826. Sorry it's in 3 parts
You sure did a great job of going to the source directly. I am assuming this book is an accurate record of the court transcript.
After reading through this complete transcript 2 times to verify the statements of all witnesses it appears that this is a perfect example of a "kangaroo court".
Did you, perhaps overlook the clear fact that nowhere in this trial is the defendant even given a chance to give one iota or shred of evidence before the court???
Mole, how would you like to be accused of something in a court and be tried in a court and convicted without even being given any chance of defending yourself?
If this is the court standard that you accept and uphold, then anyone who has a grudge against you only needs to get four or five others to testify against you and the court in similar manner can deny you any defense argument and you are then automatically found guilty! Now this is what you call justice?
A copy of Justice Neely's bill in Smiths Glass looking case.
