Hi!
I'm a newb here. Wonderful site you have here.
Someone stumped me with a question the other day and i stumbled upon this site while googling the answer. Perhaps is my shallowness, but is till don't have a reply for him.
"Can God create a rock so large that he cannot lift it himself?"
Thanks!

I would reply this way: "if you can describe how big God is, then its possible to describe a rock bigger than Him".

An old philosophical "arguement".
The question itself is flawed; it attempts to impose physical limitations on the being who is responsible for physical existence in the first place. Only God exisits by necessity, all else exists only by His active will, including any laws governing the existence of that which is not God. God is completely "other" than physical reality, transcendant, and indivisable.
Questions like this fail to understand the nature of God and try to place limitations on Him via cleverly worded nonesense...but clever nonsense is still nonsense. God cannot create a physical object He can't lift because his stregth is immesurable and not limited to physcality...NOT because He is limited by an inability to create something immesurably heavy (or large).
The question actually makes no sense, it is an oxymoron.
